The preserve, Friday evening
Feb. 23rd, 2007 09:22 pmAfter a day of hiking in circles trying to decide what might be a good spot to settle in for a few days, Nadia finally found it. She knew it was what she was looking for immediately, though she wouldn't be able to tell you how she knew.
It might have been the stones that described a loose, broken circle in the clearing. It might have been the spot's position over a low, sharp slant down to the water. It might just have been that she was damned tired of hiking and that it was starting to get cold again.
Whatever it was, this was her spot. She set up a bed of pine needles in the center of the circle, pulled the blankets out of her pack, and lay one of them down on the pine needles. Then she settled herself in, making sure that she could get to her pack quickly if she had to, despite it being outside of the circle, and wrapped her second and third blankets over her shoulders, pulling her hood up over her head. She pulled off her boots and tossed them outside the circle as an after thought, and tucked her socked feet under her body, setting her hands down between her folded legs and . . . just sat.
If she got too cold sitting, she figured she could get up and pace. But the blankets were good insulators, and she was comfortable enough for the time being.
[ooc: establishy only. That Nadia's on the preserve is fine for broadcast, but any details of what she's doing or what she sees out here are NFB, thanks.]
