Room 507, Thursday night

Nadia lay on her back on her bed, staring up at her chart, trying to figure out what she was still missing from the puzzle of what had been going on around here, lately.

She was starting to go a little crosseyed from it, actually.

It was probably best if you didn't know why Steerpike happened to be on the fifth floor, wandering by room 507. It is certainly best not to wonder why he chose to knock on sai door, this particular evening.

Sometimes, it's best just to let people like Steerpike remain mysterious.

"It's open," Nadia called.

How interesting. How . . . trusting.

Yes, that was a smirk on Steerpike's face, but only for the barest moment before he opened the door.

Perhaps he ought to test his skills.

"Hey," seemed the greeting of choice around here, so he used it. Then: "How are you?"

"I still can't figure out what I'm missing," Nadia said, her eyes still on the chart. "I know it's here, somewhere. And I'm pretty sure that Marty is completely wrong."

Steerpike stood in the center of the room, hands clasped behind his back, and looked up at the chart. He read it over quickly, committing it to memory.

One never knew when such information would be useful.

"He usually is." He had to tread very carefully, here. "What is he wrong about, this time?"

"Bel being the bad guy. But even Bel didn't have these kinds of powerrrrrrrssssss," The last few syllables dragged out as she remembered something.

Walter was doing radio tonight.

Which meant that someone trying to pretend to be Walter was currently in her room.

And, as Pippi pointed out, she was the one who had all the information that could finger the attacker guy.

She didn't look up from the chart and carefully kept her expression neutral. Had to cover for that drawn out word, there, make sure he didn't know she was on to him. "No, no, that can't be it." She punched the mattress. "Dammit. How is it all connected?"

Pippi wanders into the room and looks around a little confused.

That? Right there? On her face? Is the beginning of a black eye.

"Hey, Jamie," Nadia said without looking up. "Don't let Furrball out."

"Why is Jamie and Furrball in my room? Where's my furnature? ...Did I move?"

Nadia blinked and looked up.

Then rolled backwards off the bed and bounced up to her feet to rush over to Pippi.

Sometimes, she's a bit acrobatic.

"Pippi! Dios, what happened? You're in my room, not yours, did you get attacked? Was it a shapeshifting demon? Jesus Cristo, sit down!"

And that would be her cat, fleeing from a pillow. From somewhere that wasn't the door.

He may have broken his own speed records making it up to the fifth floor and knocking quite loudly on the door to 507.

Pippi is wandering back down the hall from the girl's bathroom.

"You!" Walter jabbed a finger at her. "How did you get hurt?" He may have sounded angry, even if it wasn't directed at her.

"Robots suck." Pippi blinks at him.

There's a bit of a shiner developing on her left eye.

Walter approached her to put an arm around her and lead her toward Nadia's room. "Funny, that," he said, tone softening, "I was just saying that on the radio."

Nadia opened the door, trying to ignore the fraternizing kitties. "Is that you, Pippi? You know you can just come i--hiiiiiiii Walter,"

Walter waved a piece of paper at her she might recognize. "What happened?"

"Pippi has a concussion and I'm taking care of her. I told you, right--" she poked at the waving piece of paper "--there that we were both okay."
