The roof, Saturday morning

Nadia wandered restlessly up to the roof (where it was oh so cold and wet and dreary and wasn't that just perfect?) and went to go sit with her guitar and practice for tonight's performance.

She wondered if Zero would notice if she played everything in a minor key?

Yeah, so she wasn't sitting right under Bel's "no emo" sign near his garden. What of it? She wasn't emo . . . she was just looking at the world realistically.

And singing.

About being miserable.

Walter, looking disheveled, came from his room (http://walter-n-wires.livejournal.com/43228.html) to the roof, looking for a place to have his whiskey and his cigarettes without being bothered about either.

Seeing Nadia and hearing her song choice, he seriously considered sneaking right back out of there. He didn't know if he had the energy to deal with her emo on top of his own.

Nadia didn't notice Walter at first; her eyes were closed as she switched from the Smiths to the Shins.

I think i'll go home and mull this over

Well, so much for the strategic withdrawal option. Walter went to lean against the plant bed and spun the top off the whiskey. "Hi yourself."

Nadia continued to strum minor chords on the guitar, though she was wishing she had gloves or something. She turned her gaze up to the gray sky.

"Fall has fallen too fast."

"Uh huh." Whiskey. That was a good breakfast. "It sucks."

As an afterthought, he held the bottle out to Nadia while he pulled out his cigarettes.

Evie had the books she'd picked up at Aereopagitica, and was looking for a good place to read. The roof seemed ideal. Taking a breath of fresh air, she happily settled into the corner of the roof where the balustrade met the wall, and tried to figure out who she wanted to read first. Homer, or Pliny? Or perhaps Desorces. Hmm.

Nadia just kind of grunted drunkenly at Evie.

Yes, it was still too early for drunkeness. But it was just one of those days.

"Hellooo!" Evie waved happily at Nadia. "Don't mind me. Just settling in for a good read. Isn't it a gorgeous day?"

"No. It's cold and icky and it *hic* sucks."

Nadia seemed to be looking at something a few inches to the right of Evie's face.

"Are you-- have you been *drinking*?" Evie asked, a bit appalled. "It's not even noon yet! You don't seem well at all!"

Walter looked apathetically at Evie and returned to his contemplation of cigarettes, alcohol, and the futility of existence.

"Hello?" Evie's greeting was a little more questioning this time. "Are you all right?"

"Is anyone?" Walter asked morosely.

"Well, I'm quite well, thank you. Are you feeling ill?" Evie studied him with concern, then noticed the accent. "Forgive me, but a couple weeks ago, did you punch Pete Hutter in the face?"

Jake was bored, and looking for somewhere that wasn't leaking emo. He was sure the emo was affecting the coffee, and that was just not on. So he wandered up to the roof, which at least had wide open spaces for the emo to go to.

"Hello, Jake." Evie gave Nadia and Walter dubious glances, then turned to someone who was actually verbal. "How are you today? I just came up here to find a nice place to read."

"I'm trying to find somewhere where my coffee won't get infected with emo," Jake explained as he gave Nadia and Walter equally dubious looks. But if it was just the two of them, it would probably be okay.
