Room 507, Friday night

No sign of Furrball yet. Nadia would get worried, but the town wasn't under a thick layer of attack-snow, so she wasn't seriously worried yet.

She checked her voicemail, her email, and all the websites she had bookmarked that might help her track Sloane's location, but there was no new information, so she started checking her weapons.

After his date which is still going on Jamie returned back to his room with a slightly bemused expression on his face. Seeing Nadia hard at work on her guns he raised an eyebrow. "Another sighting of your father?"

Nadia shook her head. "Current theory is that it isn't even him. We think one of the students has been playing these sick tricks on people. Like they've gone nuts or something." She tucked the gun back into her holster and shrugged. "I'm glad you found somewhere else to stay last night. Did you sleep in another room?"

"With all the weird stuff going on in the dorm I thought it would be safer off campus. I've been staying in one of the abadoned houses out there," Jamie replied. "So you think a student is behind this? What kind of sick person would do that?"

Nadia shook her head. "I almost don't want to know. Except that whoever it is, I want to kick their ass. We think it might be River. Since she can read minds and tends to go off the deep end occasionally. Have you seen anyone acting weird . . . er than usual?"

"In this place?" Jamie replied. "Weirder is jello dragons. I haven't seen anyone acting suspicious though. You might have something with that River thing though. Tyler mentioned she was a little off."

"She bit me over a 'dead' painting. Walter and I are going to try and find her tonight. Hopefully we'll get this whole thing straightened out, soon."

"I hope so," Jamie said beginning to scrounge through the fridge. "Do we have any coffee ice cream? I'm really jonesing for some right now."

"Um, no."

Jamie had never shown an affinity for coffee ice cream before. . . .

Her phone rang, and Nadia picked it up. "Hello? . . . Okay, I'm in my room. . . . Yeah. . . . Uh-huh, I'll meet you there. Adios." She hung up and looked over at Jamie. "That was Walter. We might have a lead." She tilted her head. "You were at the bar with Blair and Bel, right? Anything suspicious there?"

"Not really," Jamie said cracking open a soda can. "They both got drunk pretty quick and I got them a cab back to the dorms. Why?"

"You sure? No . . . drugs or anything?"

"I don't think so. Then again I wasn't there the entire night," Jamie said with a shrug. "There were a lot of bad sex puns going around. I think those two might be repressing something."

"Repressed. Yeah. Which pet store did the first phone call come from?"

Jamie gave Nadia a puzzled look. "I don't remember. Why do you ask?"

"Do they sell frogs?"

Possibly not the best line of questioning, but Nadia figured Walter would be along soon enough.

A creepy grin crossed Jamie's face. "Ah shucks. And here I thought my fun would never end. I assume the cavalry is on its way?"

Nadia stood, her hand on her mallet. "Not sure we're going to need it."

"Oooooh. Are you upset? I guess someone really can't handle their 'daddy' issues very well, no can they?" Jamie snarked.

"You ass." Nadia launched a right hook at Jamie's jaw, forgetting what would likely happen if it connected.

Two attacks in one night? Best day ever.

He rolled with the punch, controlling his mutant power, and then rubbed his jaw.

"Well you don't have to call me names," Jamie said aiming a karate chop at her neck.

Since when did Jamie know how to do that?

Nadia dodged to the side and raised her arm to block, only to end up taking it on the shoulder.

Her arm went numb for a moment and she leaned back to kick for his stomach.

He hadn't duplicated. Maybe whatever was in him kept him from doing it?

The blow to the stomach hit making Jamie stumble back. This time he let his power take over so that there were now two of him.

They looked at each other and then rushed at Nadia trying to grab her.

Aw crap!

Nadia tried for the door, but was roughly grabbed by both Jamies.

Both the Jamies got a better grip on Nadia and shoved her into the closet, using a chair to brace the door closed.

"Two girls locked in a room within a day of each other," Jamie said as he absorbed his duplicate. "Tell me that's not a record."

Grabbing his climbing gear he quickly tied off a rope to his bed and hopped out the window and down the building.

And then off into the night.

Nadia's head hit the back wall a bit hard and the world grayed out for a moment before she blinked her vision clear.

Not that that helped.

It was dark in the closet.

She promptly started shoving herself repeatedly against the door, trying to dislodge whatever was on the other side.

Walter made it to Nadia's door and heard thumping or some sort of altercation from the other side. When the knob didn't turn in his hand, he didn't bother with lockpicks when a quick flick of his fingers could cut the entire lock mechanism out of the door.

He kicked the door open and saw no sign of Jamie, but the chair wedged against the closet door and the thumping from the other side told enough of a story.

He went to grab the chair and called to Nadia so she wouldn't try to brain him with something when the door came open. "It's Walter! Hold on."
