The woods, Sunday afternoon

Phoebe totally had the Best Idea Ever. But Nadia had the idea that the Best Idea Ever should be in the woods.

"Come on, Phoebeeeeee!"

She noticed her casts were becoming a little unraveled, so she pulled out her gaffers tape and wrapped that over the medical tape.

Now she had black and white stripes on her arms.

She was a zebra!

"I'm coming, Naaadiiiaaa," Phoebe laughed as she ran with Nadia into the woods. They were ging to find the lost things.

She was amused by the fact they had managed to run away from everyone else. This way, Walter and Bel wouldn't get hurt by monsters.

That was very important, because monsters were dangerous and Walter and Bel were just little kids.

"What lost thing should we look for first? How about the polar bear?"

Yes, polar bear!!

"Well... what's the most important thing that is missing?"

[nadiathesaint]

Nadia thought about this. "Socks. Because they keep your feet warm when it's cold but they always disappearinate."

Phoebe nodded. Nadia was so smart about things like this, which is why they have such great ideas.

"Yes, we must find the Socks so our feet stay warm."

[nadiathesaint]

"I bet if we climb really really really really really really really really--" Nadia took a deep breath, "--really really really really really really high in a tree we could see the socks."

Phoebe nodded. "We just have to find the highest tree possible and climb it higher and higher and higher into the sky until we see all of the socks and then we can retrieve them!"

It made perfect sense to her.

"And we'll have to help each other because we both have casts." Nadia looked around for the tallest of the tall tall trees. "That one!" she pointed. The tree she chose was indeed very, very tall. Its lowest branch was about ten feet off the ground.

"Teamwork!" Phoebe agreed.

She stared at the tree Nadia found with wide eyes and tried to figure out if they could reach the bottom branch.

"Wait. What about that one to use to jump to that higher branch?"

The tree Phoebe was pointing to was close to the bigger tree. It also looked like it had branches close enough for them to hop from to the bigger tree.

"You are the smartest person ever. Other than me." Nadia ran to the tree Phoebe had pointed out, jumped up, and tried to grab onto a branch. Her hands slipped off because of her casts, and she fell to the ground, giggling.

"There is no one smarter than us!"

She also ran at the tree and jumped up, trying to grab the low branch with her one good arm. She managed to hang on and there she dangled.

"I need a boost!"

Nadia ran up, stood on her tiptoes, put her hands on one of Phoebe's feet and pushed!

Phoebe scrambled up and got steadied. She braced herself in a nook of branches and reached her good arm down to pull Nadia up, too.

She was pretty sure her boken arm was safely anchored.

Nadia had no reason to doubt that Phoebe was, indeed, secure, so she grabbed Phoebe's hand and started walking up the tree trunk, using Phoebe as support.

Phoebe kept herself braced and when Nadia got up onto the branch, she grinned, shaking her arm out a little.

"Yay!"

Nadia grinned, then focused on the other tree with determination. They just had to get a little higher and then they could jump over. . . .

"Come on!" She began to scrabble up the branches.

Phoebe of course began scrambling up the tree branches right with Nadia. This was going to be great. They'd get high enough to see everything and they'd be heroes.

Nadia finally got high enough to get from the branch on this tree to the branch on the other tree. She wrapped her legs around her branch and crept out to the end.

The branch bent under her weight until the branch she wanted to reach was about four feet above her.

Hmmm. What to do about this?

Phoebe watched Nadia, biting her lower lip.

"Maybe you should scoot back until the branch isn't bending and then jump up to grab the next one?"

[nadiathesaint]

That was one idea, but Nadia had another one. "Iiiiiii got it,"

Because she was a master balancer.

She slowly, wobbily, stood up on her branch and made a grab for the other one.

Success! She pulled it down and kicked out her legs to climb onto it.

Phoebe cheered when she saw Nadia's move, and was going to follow her up... and then noticed a problem. She couldn't follow Nadia that way. Nadia had had to use both of her her hands to do that trick.

"I'll have to find another way to get up there," she said.

Nadia saw the problem. She inched over to a slightly more secure part of the branch, wrapped her legs nice and tightly around it, then hung upside down and reached out both hands.

"I'll help you!"

Phoebe nodded and then smiled. She moved to wear she could grab Nadia.

"Okay!"

She had the best friend ever.

Nadia grabbed hold of Phoebe and started pulling her up.

This actually resulted in pulling the branch she was on farther down, but that was the same thing, anyway, right?

Just so long as they didn't get catapultinated.

Phoebe agreed that it was pretty much the same thing and she scrambled up onto the branch with Nadia and hoped they didn't make the tree do that flinging thing like in the cartoons. She was positive Grams would be upset if she broke anything else.

The branch wobbled up and down a lot once Phoebe was on it, too.

Weeeeeee!

Phoebe giggled at the wobbling.

[nadiathesaint]

Nadia bounced in her upside down position to make it wobble more!

Phoebe tightened her legs around the branch and giggled some more as the branch wobbled. She started weaving back and forth.

Best Idea Ever!

"We should make the branch go in circles!" Nadia demonstrated by moving her torso around and around and around. . . .

Glee! Phoebe recognized that look.

Phoebe mimicked Nadia and decided that she was right. This was a Best Idea Ever!

Nadia kept going and kept grinning and then made the mistake of looking down.

OMG, they were high up!

"eep"

[sensethevisions]

Phoebe refused to look down. Nope, no way, no how.

"Look up, Nadia," she suggested helpfully.

[nadiathesaint]

Nadia tried. Really, she did. Didn't work.

"eep" she said again.

[sensethevisions]

Phoebe tried to help, she did.

She scooted closer to Nadia and lay flat over the branch, extending her good hand.

"Take my hand and I'll pull you right side up."

[nadiathesaint]

"'kay" Nadia reached out a casted hand. "Don't fall."

Phoebe held onto her tightly with her unbroken hand and pulled.

"I won't fall," she promised.
