The roof, Sunday evening

Lucas had apparently been filled with the Easter spirit, or at the very least filled with Easter candy, because he decided to close down Empire four hours early. As such, Nadia was back on campus much faster than she had expected to be.

With a box of brownies, which she was currently staring at, debating whether or not eating them would be a good idea or not.

Maybe she should find someone to share them with?

Sure, she still had yet to talk to Victor, but, surprise surprise, she wasn't actually in too much of a hurry to do that.

Walter came up onto the roof. The promise of brownies had dragged him away from staring blankly at his books.

It wasn't quite as good as drinking, but it would do.

"Hey. I got your message."

"Hey!" Nadia offered Walter a small smile, then held out the box of brownies. "Grab a seat and forget your worries for awhile."

Why, yes, she had, in fact, had a brownie already.

Walter took a brownie and sat down on the edge of the roof, dangling his feet.

"Do I want to know where you got the brownies?"

"I told you. I got them at work." Nadia frowned. "I think I told you that. . . ."

Walter winced. "You did. I guess I'm just not thinking too well. There wasn't much point in trying to do revision."

Nadia didn't worry about asking about the revision thing. "Yeah. Things like . . . can do that to you. Maybe you should talk to Alfred about the whole thing?"

"If I don't tell him, he'll probably end up asking me. Casually disguised as asking after Victor or the like." Walter looked the brownie over and gave it a sniff before taking a big bite.

"Well." Nadia took a brownie of her own. "Let's not worry about that, right now. How was poker night?"

"I came out with more than I started with. Sam was doing the best though."

He finished his brownie and took another from the box. "Alfred gave me time off for the pool party. Will you be going?"

"Of course. Pippi, Pip and I went shopping for new swim suits for it." Nadia licked some crumbs from her fingers, and considered getting Walter in on her devious plot. Which was still unscheduled, but slowly developing in the devious plotting portion of her brain.

"I still need to do that." Dammit, everything reminded him of Victor. "I have a suit, but I bet you'd snicker."

He took a bite of the brownie and wondered which would go with it better, milk or whiskey.

"Oh, I'm sure I wouldn't. But there is a very good selection at All and Sundries."

"And Mr. Blackadder is always such a charming follow," Walter said with a roll of his eyes.

"He's not too bad, you just have to show him who's boss. His assistant is a little . . . ."

"Odiferous? Stinky?" Walter snickered just a little. "Ripe?"

Nadia giggled. "Yes. I need to improve my vocabulary. There are not enough adjectives that I know to describe him."

"At least he's friendly and helpful. Too bad someone brave doesn't toss him in the pond or something." These brownies just got better the more you ate...

Nadia pulled out another. "I suggested a necklace of air fresheners. Okay, that was mostly to distract Mr. Blackadder from noticing that I stole some nail polish. But he seemed to like the idea. He didn't sneer when he gave me my change or anything."

"Nice one." Walter held his brownie up to her in a pseudo toast. "I didn't think Mr. Blackadder's face did anything but a sneer."

Nadia "clinked" her brownie against Walter. "What can I say? I'm good." She took a bite. "So, I've been thinking. Pip and Pippi."

"As a couple?" Walter shook his head and took a bite of his brownie, waving his hand at her for patience while he chewed. "I think Pip's a good looking guy, but maybe too much of a rake for Pippi's first boyfriend."

Said he with no right whatsoever to say anything like that.

"But they're so fun together!" Nadia frowned, chewing for a moment. "What do you mean 'rake'?"

Walter shrugged. "I just think he'd be looking for a more experienced girlfriend, you know?"

Nadia blinked. And took a minute to finish her brownie before finishing.

"Ah."

Her tone of voice was one of great, sage wisdom.

"There is that."

Walter kicked his feet and stared down at the ground below. "Mind if I smoke? I mostly don't anymore, but this is a good time for it."
