Empire Records, Thursday afternoon
Apr. 6th, 2006 12:11 pmThe record store was closed, and as far as Nadia could tell, it had been for awhile. She knew she hadn't managed to open it on Sunday, but wouldn't Lucas have opened it this week?
Unless something had happened to him.
Just another person for Nadia to add to her mental list.
She slipped into the store using her key and headed for the backroom. She'd been planning to just ask Lucas for any money she was still owed, before quitting the job. Without Lucas here . . . well, in a way, that just made this simpler. She grabbed some paper, scribbled down a quick note that she was glad for the opportunity, yadda yadda, but she was resigning effective immediately. She would take her last pay--and only her last pay--from the safe and would put her key in the mailbox.
And she did.
The soft *clank* of the key striking the bottom of the mailbox echoed in her head as she headed back across town.
